“I put a thin coat of paint on the paint grip steel panel,” says Redgie Adams, Adams Sign Co., North Little Rock, Arkansas. “Then I poured a little muriatic acid on it and, wearing rubber gloves, used a wire brush and a Scotchbrite pad to scrape through to the raw steel in a few places and cause rust. I dried it off, then did another coat of paint and repeated the acid work. Once I had the funky old look I wanted, I finished it with matte Matthew Acrylic Polyurethane Clear.”
