I sometimes use cedar planks for a background to mount a sign face on, or use cedar trim on a sign. For years I’ve been using Sikkens stains on these backgrounds and I find they hold up really well.
The Birch Avenue sign has been used for three businesses over the years. First it was “Birch Avenue Refinishing,” then “Antiques” and now “Floor Covering.” Each time I changed the sign, I stained it again with Sikkens stain. It’s going on 20 years old and still looks good.
