Router-cut letters on a smooth or textured background give a nice 3-D feel, but layers accent the dimensional effect even more. Dayna Reed [creator of the
3D Signs Made Easy and the
More Super Cool 3D Signs videos] took advantage of that on this sign for a country club.
The sign, which was designed by Monterey Signs, Seaside, California, uses four layers and multiple elements. The backing is aluminum composite material [ACM], which holds the studs for mounting the sign elements. Another layer of ACM is bonded to that, and it carries all the graphic elements of the sign. The golf ball panel is HDU with a domed shape, then the HDU letters and horse graphic sit atop that. Here’s how it came together:
