When Doug Downey told us he’d like to see an article series where a sign designer shared what resources he or she depended on to create their designs, we thought it was a great idea. We also thought Doug was the perfect candidate to kick off the series.

Doug has been in the sign business since 1979. He runs his business, The ImageFactory, from a 1500-sq.-ft. office/ warehouse space in Stratford, Ontario, Canada. Along with signs and vehicle wraps, he provides graphics for small businesses and a few large accounts—mostly vehicle wraps, large format printing and signs, along with business cards, other print media and website design.

About half his work is vehicles, and he also does complete image makeovers on a regular basis. Doug’s goal is to be a “one stop graphics source” for his customers. He has the help of three part-time staffers, including his college-student son Evan.
