Tips & Tricks: Vinyl removal with a razor scraper

I’ve removed a lot of vinyl film over the years and can speak to the fact that it is not a pleasant task. I’ve tried just about all the methods I have read about and about all the products the vendors sell. They all work well and take about the same time to remove graphics from flat surfaces. Just as 3M says, you can remove 25 to 30 sq. ft. per hour.

That said, there’s one method that I learned from a window tint guy that is faster but requires some risk and skill. It involves using a 4-in. razor scraper and isopropyl alcohol. That’s become my go-to. At over 120 sq. ft. per hour on 10-year-old sun-baked reflective and 300 sq. ft. per hour on economy permanent sun-baked vinyl, it is wicked fast.
