Building a landmark: Sprocket the Robot

It doesn’t happen often, but occasionally we partner with another sign designer to come up with something truly special. A while back we were contacted by Ross Johnson [Ross Johnson Design of Rapid City, South Dakota]. We’ve explored possible collaboration on projects previously but none of them came to fruition.
Ross and his partners were building a new arcade and needed a landmark out front—something that would stop traffic. Ross had done the logo design for the business which was called ‘SPROCKETS.” It was a beauty and provided lots of inspiration.
We did up three concepts for a landmark and they picked their favorite—a giant robot. Ross and his team asked for only minor tweaks (mainly making it bigger). We quickly agreed on terms to allow us to proceed.
