I carry my smartphone in a plastic Ziploc bag. Even when wearing nitrile gloves I can still use the interface (the biometric fingerprint might not work, though, so that’s a trade-off). I use an OtterBox hard-shell case which protects my phone from drops but it is not water/paint proof; the sandwich bag is. When the bag gets too smudged or worn, it is cheap to replace.
The same goes for tablets. Depending on the size of the tablet, large freezer Ziploc bags will also protect them from drips, splatters, and painted fingerprints.
