Not enough budget for 3D? Cut it out!

Sometimes a customer loves the look of your custom 3D signs for their storefront but their budget may be more in line with a flat sign. That’s when a cutout can come to the rescue.

Cutout graphics work really well on a wall or storefront because they have a way of making the whole wall or storefront into the sign. That means a much more dramatic look than a sign on a rectangular panel mounted to the wall.

“If they don’t have the budget for 3D,” says Travis Toews of RT Signs, Steinbach, Manitoba, Canada, “we look at cutting the graphics out. A sign doesn’t have to be a rectangular panel mounted to the storefront. It adds some cost over a flat panel, but cutout graphics can be a great solution.”

Cutting out the lettering and graphics can move their sign up a notch, adding extra interest and appeal for not much extra cost. It also lets you make the lettering and graphics the maximum square footage that the sign ordinance allows for a sign because the storefront provides the background.

But cutouts aren’t just for storefronts. Cutting out a panel, graphic or the primary copy on any otherwise flat sign panel can add extra impact without stretching the budget too far.

“The Coral Cove sign is a great example,” Travis says. “It would have been nice to use dimension on the letters and graphics but the budget wasn’t there. We were able to offer them a way to take advantage of the appeal of 3D at just a little more cost than a flat sign.”
