Here’s another simple method that I use to install a sign on a wall. I often work alone, so it is especially helpful in that case, but it works great when you have help, too.
On the wall, work out the location of any of the sign’s corners. Drill a hole in the wall where the fastener in that corner will be located, say an inch in and an inch up (or whatever measurements you prefer) from where that corner of the sign will be. Drill a corresponding hole in the corner of the sign.
Lift that corner of the sign to align with the hole with no concern for keeping it level. Have a screw waiting in the sign’s hole, pushed through the sign to the head so you can use it as a hole-finder.
Push it into the hole in the wall. Screw it in, letting the sign simply dangle from it.
Using that screw as a pivot, swing the sign up to level. Drill and screw or, depending on method, simply screw the other corner to the wall through the face.
I generally put the first screws into the bottom of the sign because it’s usually easier to put your hand under the sign to swing it up into position. BUT—when working from the bottom, you must ensure the sign doesn’t drop outwards, bending or breaking that first bottom corner.
This approach can look awfully inelegant and ungainly while you are doing it, but who cares? It works.
