What does a graphic designer who races jet skis do when he sees that all his competitors have full wraps with screaming colors and graphics? He swims upstream, of course. Ronnie Parker came to Lane Walker [Solo Signs, Reno, Nevada] wanting to enhance the body lines of his jet ski, using only pinstripes in black, white and gray.

“Ronnie was bent on keeping it monochromatic and free of any color,” Lane says, “since all the other racers have gone with all-out wraps. It was a pretty challenging project.”

The result was the exact opposite of the wild, colorful graphics you see on most jet skis at a race. The lettering was done in vinyl since it changes from time to time, and Lane added a gray bevel on the number for continuity. The monochromatic look turns heads at the races—and that’s just what Ronnie had in mind.
