Scott Martin was an outstanding sign maker from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, who passed in October of 2020. We had been planning a feature on Scott and his work but sadly had to do it posthumously in January 2021.
The letters are prism-carved high density urethane board finished with 23K gold leaf. The hand carved flowers included airbrushed centers.
“This was his passion project at the time of his passing,” says his daughter, Jules MacKay, @brushgal. “There is also a piece inside the shop, a gilded window piece, and there was supposed to be a pylon sign out on the street.”
There are many more great-looking signs in the article, including two round glass signs with 18K gold leaf lettering in PVC frames that Scott fabricated. The “Kabuki Spa” sign uses acid etched centers, and the “Shine” sign has sandblasted, gilded letters. There’s also an excellent video on Scott and his work.
