San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf is among the most popular tourist destinations on the West Coast—packed with sights to see, places to shop and eat—and cool signs. Rocco Gaskins paid it a visit recently and like any creative sign maker, devoted plenty of time to taking in the great-looking signs.
Tourist areas always get more than their share of creative signs. With plenty of foot traffic, 3D graphics, gold leaf and illustrations are used abundantly to help lure passing visitors in to see, eat or buy something.
“The 3D work on the Fun food Factory sign is terrific,” Rocco says. “I even took a photo of it from above to show the dimension. My favorite is the Far West Fungi window, because I’m a lover of good gold leaf work.”
