What’s more amazing than to see your company name as a gleaming chrome or gold emblem that appears to be mounted on your truck door? It’s a look that sign makers in the Jersey-style truck tradition have created for decades, and one of the best at it is Brian Schofield of Lines & Letters Designs, Bridgewater, New Jersey.

Brian creates these using hand lettering, an airbrush and masks—and has been doing it for over 40 years. Along with brush lettering and airbrush skills, it takes a thorough understanding of how light affects a real emblem with a chrome, gold or brass finish. The natural shadows and highlights of an emblem are a challenge to reproduce.

“It’s not a look I use on every job,” says Brian, “but it does appeal to a lot of customers. I don’t like to get stuck in one particular look, though. It’s not appropriate for every truck door.”
