Fabricate an easy ACM sign cabinet

Aluminum composite material gets a lot of use for flat sign panels. But it’s also easy to form it into a dimensional sign cabinet with the look of fabricated aluminum. All of a sudden the flat ACM panel has depth and can be easily installed using fasteners through the sides rather than the face.

It’s a clean, professional look you can do in-house without any specialized equipment. And besides looking great, bending ACM into a cabinet adds a lot of strength. It’s a technique that Dayna Reed [creator of the 3D Signs Made Easy and the More Super Cool 3D Signs videos] has used many times, both on sign cabinets and for bases to cover sign posts.

“This makes a very durable, long-lasting sign,” Dayna says, “that really looks much better than a flat panel. It goes together fast, too. I often use it as the base on a sign to cover the posts or any other structure that is holding the sign faces. It makes a really clean look. If the posts are wood, everything stays dry.”
