Creating a design that is both appealing and appropriate is essential to a successful sign or vehicle project. Nowhere is that more critical than on vintage vehicles. So often one sees a well-restored truck that has graphics that don’t fit the vehicle’s era.

That’s not the case here. These two fine old trucks were featured in “Nine secrets to building a sign business that lasts,” in which Brian Schofield, Lines and Letters, Bridgewater, New Jersey, shared what it takes to build a sign business that lasts.

“On both of these trucks,” Brian says, “I was given total freedom to lay out and execute them—which is a rarity. I tried to come up with a period-correct layout and color schemes that played off the colors on the trucks. Obviously, I tried to select and draw type that would have been used in the 1940s and ’50s. Karin really loves these old trucks, as you can see from her smile in the photo.”

Brian has been at it for over 40 years, and with the help of Karin Levin, has been creating those appropriate, appealing designs that keep customers coming back. Be sure to take a minute to see the great-looking trucks and signs, along with his key points for success in the business.
