Time and time again sign people have told us of three things that make selling signs easier: samples on the showroom wall, photographs of work they have done, and the ability to do a quick sketch in front of the customer.

It doesn’t matter whether you focus on flat vinyl signage, hand lettering, wraps or complex 3-D signs—a picture is still worth a thousand words. It’s much easier to connect with the customer when they see what you can do than if you just try to tell them.

Jim Lago relies on his portfolio to simplify the sales process. Besides showing what he’s done for other customers just like them, he uses photos to quickly identify what appeals to the prospective customer.

“Photos of your work really help,” Jim says. “When you show customers photos of what you have done for other businesses you can see what appeals to them. I can usually quickly get an idea of what a customer wants from their reactions as they go through the photos of our work.”

There’s more on how Jim uses photos as a sales tool, and also how to improve your online portfolio in “Easier sales: Show them what you can do”. Check it out!
