PVC board is a great material for sign making—for letters, sign panels, cabinets and even monument structures. It’s durable, easy to work with and finish, but it does have its limitations. It will warp if it gets too hot, especially at thinner thicknesses. It will get brittle if it gets too cold. And it expands and contracts more than most other sign substrates. It’s important to know how to get around these issues.

Joe Paffoon has used PVC board regularly in his sign shop for over 25 years. He uses it for all types of exterior and interior signage—and often mixes/matches it with HDU and other materials to give his signs dimension. He likes it for its structural strength, overall stability and exterior durability.

“PVC board is a great material for signs,” Joe says, “but like many materials it has its challenges. All of the steps and procedures we use when working with PVC board came at a cost. We developed each process because we had a problem that we didn’t want to have happen again.”

You’ll learn the results of these hard-won lessons in “Getting the most out of PVC board.” Don’t miss it!
