We’re sure the restaurants on the popular tourist destination island of Koh Tao, Thailand, are terrific, but we think the signs are even better. Here’s a selection of restaurant signs designed and lettered by Rob Cooper, the Kiwi designer and sign artist who makes his home there.
There’s a layout idea or two (or three) on every one of these signs. Look for how Rob often uses a subtle panel behind the lettering. It may be a slightly different shade of the background color, dry brush, scrollwork or overlapping transparent panels.
The letter style for the primary copy is always clean yet interesting. Watch for rules that separate lists of items, convex letters, double outlines and pictorials. It all comes together to create signs that make you take a second look.
